Abstract
The process of demand for democracy is an inevitable principle and path to achieve it necessitates a cultural democratization. In the same way, it will be potential to implement the real elements of democracy in a society based on living condition and people’s inspirations perspectives. This article examines the role of religion in Egyptian democratic transformation. As far as an overall study in Egyptian Revolution shows, religion played a critical role in creation of equilibrium among Islamist, liberal and secular groups. So, the new paradigm of democracy based on religion is regarded as the key parameter of “January 25 Revolution”. Some believe that the collapse of the Mobarak regime and putting an end to the hegemony of National Democratic Party led to the emergence of pluralism in political climate and players. Furthermore, the new political environment and diversity in component of movements and Islamic parties is a clear modification of post-revolutionary Egypt. The role and task of religion in Egyptians democratization process is the core topic of this paper. We will argue that the transition to democracy in Egypt would not be measured without a realistic account of religious analysis level; however, pluralism in Islamic movement after the Egyptian revolution will deter the dominance of hegemony by a specific Islamic group in the country. Moreover, transition from dictatorship of Mubarak to democracy has generated a fundamental change in discourse of parties, traditional and modern Islamic groups and also led to diversity in ideology and methods.
