Abstract
Alevi Community in Turkey has gone through many vicissitudes since its emergence in the social and political scene in this country. The identity of this religious community, however, is associated with the Shia beliefs and teachings, which in turn has laid its consequences from the time of Ottoman Empire until today.
The political status of Alavis in Turkey created more attraction among political observers amid the ongoing developments in the region, especially after recent events in Syria under an Alawite-dominated government. This emphasis is doubled for Iran as the World's largest Shia country having ultimate influence on and being influenced by developments in the region. The article thus, aims at analyzing the transforming role of Alavis in Turkey's socio- political arena.
