Abstract
Fundamentalism is one of the famous phenomena within Islamic mainstream today. Indeed, the movements occurred in Islamic societies have caused to pay more attention to this issue. Following the entry of modernity to the Middle East, particularly in the Muslim societies, Muslim thinkers and scholars have had some concerns about the relations between modernity and the fundamentalism. They, in turn, have suggested many different opinions on the roots and results of this relation. This study aimed to investigate the relationship and tries to analyze the relation based on nostalgia phenomenon. So, using the descriptive- analytical method, we define the concepts of “modernity” and “fundamentalism”, specially “Islamic fundamentalism”. Then, offering some specific elements as nostalgia symbols of modernity, we show the nostalgic roots in framework of fundamentalism. Finally, we try to provide evidences explaining the relation between modernity and fundamentalism accordance with the nostalgia concept.
